Castrol EDGE 0W-30 LL: Castrol launches new low viscosity engine oil approved by BMW Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen.
Castrol has launched a new low-viscosity ‘combi’ engine oil that’s been approved for use in a number of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen vehicles. Castrol EDGE 0W-30 LL is suitable for petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles and is designed to meet the latest specifications required by modern engines where the vehicle manufacturer recommends an ACEA C3 or earlier specification 0W-30 lubricant*.
The new engine oil meets the latest industry requirements of four OEM approvals: BMW Longlife-04, MB-Approval 229.31/ 229.51, Porsche C30 and VW 504 00/ 507 00 in a single product. The new lubricant is also suitable for use in MB 229.52 specifications (for Mercedes-Benz vehicles).
The new engine oil has been designed to address many of the challenges associated with modern engines, helping to deliver improved fuel efficiency, low-temperature performance and wear protection.
While smaller, powerful engines offer better fuel economy, the greater use of turbocharging can increase the amount of pressure inside an engine. Up to 10% of engine performance can be lost to friction, impacting power and wasting fuel. Castrol EDGE 0W-30 LL works to reduce friction, increase efficiency and reduce harmful emissions.
Low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) events can also occur when smaller turbocharged engines are subjected to high loads at low engine speeds. The fuel-air mixture can ignite prematurely, causing excessive pressure in the cylinders, leading to increased engine noise and, in extreme cases, catastrophic engine damage. CASTROL EDGE 0W-30 LL passes all LSPI testing requirements to significantly reduce the risk of such events occurring.
The new low viscosity engine oil has the ability to be used across a range of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen vehicles. This new formulation has the potential to service up to 51 million vehicles across six European countries**, providing increased benefits to car owners, mechanics, distributors and independent workshops.
