- To be launched in the heart of the European B-segment in Autumn 2023, equipped with the latest technology and power trains, including hybrid (HEV).
- Return of Mitsubishi’s COLT nameplate to Europe – 60 years after the first model to bear the COLT name was introduced.
- Will broaden Mitsubishi Motors’ line-up with competitive models in core European segments.
Mitsubishi Motors Europe today announces its return to the European B segment after nearly 10 years, with the new generation COLT five door hatchback, to go on sale in Autumn 2023.
To compete alongside the Space Star, the recently-announced new ASX, and the Eclipse Cross PHEV, the new COLT will significantly increase Mitsubishi Motors’ market coverage in core European segments. The new passenger car line-up from 2023 will thus consist of hatchbacks and SUVs, and include electrified powertrains.
First applied in 1962, the COLT nameplate has a rich heritage having adorned numerous generations of mainly compact models around the globe, becoming one of Mitsubishi’s most well-known names in the process. The most recent generation, which was also manufactured in Europe, sold over 400 000* units in the region between 2004 and 2014.
The new COLT will offer a complete package of equipment including the latest technology, a full range of powertrains and will be manufactured at Renault’s Bursa plant in Turkey. Like the new generation ASX, the COLT will be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-B platform.
Frank Krol, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe commented: “The addition of the new COLT hatchback and the new ASX announced earlier, will dramatically increase our customer offer in 2023, alongside the entry Space Star model and the Eclipse Cross PHEV. Mitsubishi Motors has a long history in the B-segment, and the COLT nameplate is synonymous with that – we are looking forward to writing a new chapter in the COLT story and for the Mitsubishi Motors brand in Europe.”
