Vredestein Quatrac beats leading brands in Auto Express test of all-season tyres; triumphs for value.
- The Quatrac secured second place, trailing the overall winner by just 0.1% in the final scores, and was the only tyre ‘Recommended’ by the test panel
- Placed first for wet braking and snow braking, second for dry handling
- Leads the premium all-season rankings for affordability –, it undercuts the price of the first-placed tyre in the test by approximately 20%
The Vredestein Quatrac, a premium all-season tyre developed for mid-sized family cars and SUVs, has secured second place in a comprehensive new group test of
all-season tyres conducted by Auto Express, the biggest selling motoring magazine in the UK.
The Quatrac trailed the overall winner by just 0.1% in the final rankings, despite being approximately 20% cheaper. The tyre also came top for wet braking and snow braking, and was placed second for dry handling, outperforming several more expensive products from other leading tyre brands. The test confirmed the Quatrac’s status as the most affordable premium-performance all-season tyre on the market, delivering high-performance, durability and comfort at an accessible price.
The Auto Express team evaluated eight different all-season products from leading European tyre manufacturers – all in the popular 225/45 R17 size. Each tyre was fitted to a Volkswagen Golf GTI before being put through a series of challenging dynamic tests in wet, dry and snowy conditions.
Aside from the winner, the Vredestein tyre was the only tyre ‘Recommended’ by the independent Auto Express team, which praised its year-round versatility and for being “among the best everywhere.”
In the publication’s testing at the TRIWO facility in Pferdsfeld Germany, the tyre produced similar results to the overall test winner in the handling, wet circle and aquaplaning categories, impressing with its “liveliness” and “safe, front-limited balance that kept the rear stable but without needing extra lock.”
In the dry, the Quatrac delivered good grip and balance, especially in longer turns. It also performed well for comfort, being placed third for cabin noise.
Success for the Vredestein tyre continued during the Auto Express snow test phase in Sweden, with the Quatrac taking top spot for braking and winning praise for its performance around the challenging handling circuit.
“The Vredestein brand played a key role in bringing the first all-season tyres to market three decades ago, and we have invested heavily to maintain our reputation for class-leading performance and affordability in the category ever since,” comments Yves Pouliquen, Group Head of Sales and Marketing at Apollo Tyres. “The Auto Express test is yet another impressive result for the Quatrac, underlining the continued dedication and focus of our European R&D team.”
Apollo Tyres’ premium Vredestein brand has been renowned for its all-season tyres since the 1990s, remaining at the forefront in terms of technology and innovation. Today, the iconic Vredestein brand features on the most comprehensive and diverse portfolios of all-season tyres on the market.
There are now three main Vredestein all-season offerings: the core Vredestein Quatrac product line, the Quatrac Pro+ for performance cars and SUVs, and the Quatrac Pro EV – the first all-season tyre in Europe dedicated to battery electric vehicles and hybrids. The Quatrac Pro EV builds on the success of its all-season siblings, introducing a range of new features to manage the elevated torque and higher vehicle weight typical of modern EVs.
